Chapter 033 – The Rookie Devil [A]

The passage felt like a damp cave. There were some places with big cavities and there were places with beautiful ores on the ceiling that shone beautifully.

It felt completely different to the outside world, perhaps one could think of this place as a closed off, different world.

Fay walked as he gave glances around. He was at one of the largest dungeons in the world that was located in the Free City. Nobody knew how deep the dungeon was. Some even said that it might continue to the other side of the world.

The demons here were completely different from those of the outside world, and if one defeated them, it seemed they would drop a magic stone and disappear.

“There’s nothing coming my way… what’s wrong? There’s no way they are scared of me.”

Come on, come on, come on, thought Fay as he wished for big prey to come his way. However…

…Huh? There’s nothing at all though?

He already walked for about an hour, but he didn’t encounter anything. Even though he was supposed to be the protagonist that would make the fight against an unreasonable opponent a basic procedure, nothing happened.

“…”

There was nothing at all. However, a goblin-like demon finally appeared in front of him. It was an unpleasant humanoid creature in green color.

“Gauea!!!”

“…Fuhn, is groaning like that all you can do?”

It turned its sharp fang toward Fay, but the goblin was surprised to find that its head was already separated from its torso before it noticed it.

“Gwgea?”

“…Too slow.”

It disappeared like ashes and a magic stone fell off. Fay picked it up and put it in his pocket. Even though that was the first demon he defeated in the dungeon, his expression was painted in dissatisfaction.

Oi oi, even though I’m a hard working type of protagonist… to think there aren’t any enemies coming my way… what’s going on here? I want to fight against more amazing enemies.

I am the protagonist, you know? What’s the big deal with defeating a single goblin? Aren’t there any amazing enemies nearby?

I already walked around for an hour, you know? To be honest, I didn’t do any mapping at all so I don’t know where I should go. Well, I am still a protagonist after all. Maybe they will come if I just reach somewhere.

With that in mind, Fay walked, and walked, and kept walking. However, all he met were a goblin, and another goblin, and another one, and sometimes a goblin with a different color. There was no protagonist-like event happening to him at all. Even though it is my first dungeon dive, this makes me feel no different from a common mob character, won’t it?! Thought Fay as he began to rage.

However, that was inevitable. It was natural that nothing special happened. It was because the world didn’t rotate around him as its center. Although irregularities did happen in the dungeon, it wasn’t like it would happen every moment.

It was due to the absolute destiny known as the game version scenario, and the world just happened to act according to it.

It was difficult for Fay to force such events to happen. After all, Fay’s actual identity was still cannon fodder.

It was only a coincidence that so many events happened to him so far. And that was also due to the actual protagonists, Arthur and Tlue, just happening to be nearby at that moment.

Of course, there were also events intended for the character named Fay. However, that wasn’t enough to justify the causality to link such an event to this Free City.

After all, he wasn’t a person with a big role like a protagonist.

He got lost on the road and continued to walk. However, only goblins came to him. Troubles wouldn’t come when one prepared for it.

However… if there was a protagonist-like existence beside him, then things would change.

“Ah! You are the person of that time!”

Fay heard a voice behind him. It was the voice of a girl which was both beautiful and clear yet filled with bullish demeanor. When Fay looked back, there was the figure of Aliceia who crashed into him in the beta event earlier.

“…So it’s you.”

“So you’re also an adventurer! That’s right. About earlier… nothing… My name is Aliceia! What’s your name?!” 1

“I have no obligation to answer you.”

“Eh? What’s with that?! Are you scared?!”

“Cih…”

“Hiih!

When Fay clicked his tongue, Fay seemed to unleash some pressure and she took a step back as she got scared. Perhaps like a certain dense, blond handsome protagonist, this girl might end up not being good at dealing with Fay. 2

“Fay…”

“Eh…?”

“…Fay.”

“Ah, you mean your name?”

“What else could it mean then?”

“I-I see… I guess so. *cough*, I will be the greatest existence in this world, so it would be good for you to remember my name!”

“…”

“Ah, you ignored me again! That’s rude! Well, I guess that’s normal since we practically met for the first time… hey, do you know the way to the second floor? I didn’t know the right way and I ended up walking in circles all this time.”

“…Think for yourself.”

“What’s with that?! Isn’t it okay to just tell me! Ah, you also don’t know the way, right!”

“…I wonder.”

Fay began to walk again after throwing that word that sounded like a parting line. Alice was at a loss, but she was interested in Fay who also acted solo like she did and decided to follow after him.

“Are you a solo?”

“Can’t you see it?”

“I-I see… Why are you going solo? Perhaps… you are always alone?”

“You have a lot of questions. I don’t understand why I should answer you… but whatever. It’s to train myself. Also, I don’t like noisy spaces.”

“He-heh.”

“Let’s see… there’s also the fact that I often act alone.”

“Ah, so you’re also like that! So am I!”

“…I don’t care.”

Fay kept walking after breaking conversation with her. Fay didn’t seem to be good at reading the atmosphere.

She also didn’t know what to do since she moved around all alone on the first floor. That was why she chose to follow Fay for the time being.

“You’re a rookie, right? Is it okay for you to go solo?”

“I don’t need such considerations.”

“Fu-hn, well, I should be fine alone considering how great my talent is, but I think it’s better for you to act together with someone! After all, I am the greatest existence in the world, something similar to a hero or champion!”

“I didn’t ask.”

“Hey, listen to me!”

“Just ask someone who isn’t me.”

“I-I, don’t have… any friends… so I’m a bit lonely, or something…”

Aliceia whined a little. When she saw a solitary loner of similar age like Fay, her true thoughts leaked out a bit.

However, she then remembered her decision to not be pessimistic.

“…”

“Hah! Tha- that’s just a lie! I don’t need any friends! I just didn’t bother to make any! I only bother to talk to you like this out of boredom!”

“…So? Why did you come here?”

“Eh…? Ah, tha-that’s…”

He-he suddenly asked a question…I got a little nervous. The only one who asked me a question was a doll.

“We-well, I guess I’m casually trying to become a hero and let my existence be known all over the world? Well, also… I’m searching for my elder brother.”

“I see.”

“Eeh, tha-that’s right. For an existence like me, the adventurers in this town are no different than mooks, but it would serve enough to be my stepping stones!”

“Quite the confidence you’ve got there.”

“I am filled with talent, so it’s only natural.”

She proudly said that while puffing her chest forward. Fay naturally accepted her determination and feeling without being disgusted by it. It was somewhat unfounded absolute self-confidence, but she couldn’t help but to believe she was amazing because she was special.

Perhaps Fay could sympathize with how she carried herself. The moment Aliceia said that with confidence, a big earthquake suddenly happened.

“Uwaaahhh!!”

“…”

“It-it stopped… Somehow, there have been a lot of earthquakes recently… He-hey, don’t you think so too?”

“…”

What’s … with his tremendous concentration… It feels different than when he ignored me before. He seemed to enter his own world and really didn’t notice my existence.

“…”

“Ah, don’t ignore me and walk off on your own…”

Fay walked again. Two of them continue to walk. However, they couldn’t seem to find the way to the second floor.

“Hey, I don’t think that’s the case but… you don’t know your way, right?”

“…”

“Haah, I knew it… We’ve already been here for a while now. I think it’s already evening outside. Don’t you think it’s better of us to call it a day and go home?”

“…Not yet. Something is coming.”

“Something, you say… why are you suddenly saying…?!”

She suddenly smelled blood. She swallowed her saliva. The place where the pair stopped was an empty space. It was a considerable size, allowing them to fight properly if anything suddenly came.

“Ah, aaah, this is bad… we-we have to escape…”

“…I see. You should run away then.”

“I-idiot, this is not the time to say such a thing. There’s definitely something dangerous coming.”

“…I guess so.”

“I guess so, you say… hieh… it-it’s coming.”

We lacked a normal chatty person so far feels nice (the ese group were just informants, Arthur wasn’t normal at all and yururu or maria weren’t chatty)
