Chapter 040 – Voice [B]

A few days have passed since Fay’s group returned to the royal capital Britannia after the fierce battle at Pond City. One morning, Fay woke up for early morning training.

He changed his clothes, walked out of the room and went through the dining room where the orphans usually ate. It was around the time Maria wore an apron and made breakfast for the children.

“Fay, good morning.”

“Aah.”

Recognizing Fay’s voice and footsteps, Lele, who woke up early, came to greet him.

“Fay, good morning!”

“Aah.”

Fay replied indifferently. Fay seemed to want to leave the place soon. However, Lele wanted to make time for Maria and Fay to be alone together. Maria was busy taking care of the orphans.

It was hard for Lele to secure some time for Fay and Maria to get together. Maria was making breakfast in the morning, she made lunch and did the laundry by noon, and was taking care of younger kids at night. Every day was a busy day. Even though Fay lived under the same roof with Maria, the time they spent as just two of them was very short.

Besides, Lele noticed Maria (Lilia)’s indescribable feeling of trying not to interfere with Fay’s life.

“Fay! I want to eat the meal that Fay makes again!”

“…What?”

“I want to eat it again! That thing you made for me during my birthday!”

“…”

“Please!”

Fay looked at Lele suspiciously before sighing, then he entered the kitchen.

“Fay…”

“Lend me the kitchen for a bit.”

“O-okay…”

Fay borrowed Maria’s spare knife and dexterously made something. He was quite skillful with the knife. Maria felt her face flushed for a bit as she looked at Fay’s side profile. After a while, the omelet was ready and he served that to Lele.

“Waaah, thank you! There, Maria should also eat some!”

“Thank you, A-hn… It’s delicious…”

“Fay, you are really good at cooking!”

“That’s right. Fay is really good at cooking.”

“…There’s no such a thing.”

…Hm, is this dish known as omelet? It both looks great and tastes delicious… somehow, eating something this delicious makes me lose confidence…

“Fay, thank you!”

“…It seems he has already gone to his training.”

Fay left the orphanage without hearing Lele’s gratitude. By the way, he also made Yururu’s portion like before. Mei, who was also present there, also ate Fay’s omelet.

…Fay-kun… as expected, you really are good at cooking. I’m losing my confidence… I guess I should stop bringing him ham lettuce sandwiches from now on…

Fay-sama… you’ve destroyed Mei’s cooking pride from being a maid for almost 20 years.

Both of them lost their pride as cooks.

◆◆

A few days have passed since the fierce battle at Pond City. I spent my days training every single day. I was having morning, noon, and night training with Yururu-shishou. It was time to train until the next event came.

Arthur came to me sometimes and we sparred, which all ended with me biting the dust.

When I tried to leave for my morning training to grow stronger, Lele called me. It seemed he liked the omelet I made for him last time. 1

Well, I guess I could spare some time… So I proceeded to make him the omelet while expressing that it couldn’t be helped. Since Maria had been working hard, I guess I should also make Maria’s portion…

“Fay, you are really good at cooking!”

“That’s right. Fay is really good at cooking.”

Heeh… so you find it delicious… Well, I feel happy to hear Lele and Maria say that, you know? But you see… I think if it was made by an expert chef instead, both of them would react differently.

[“FAAAAAAYYYYY!!! This omelet is SOOOOOO DELICIOUSSSSSSS!!!!”]

Lele would say that as if some sort of laser exuded from him… as for Maria,

[“Hmn, I-it’s so delicious, my hips is faaaaaaallllliiiiiing.”]2

She would say things like that as if her clothes were being torn apart with an expression of bliss… Wasn’t that the thing that happens to cooking protagonists?

Be it things like clothes exploding, emitting lasers, flying to outer space and traveling through time, buttons popping off… A normal reaction just wouldn’t cut it.

Well, I wasn’t a cooking protagonist so such a thing was impossible for me… There was always a sky above the sky after all… because I was thinking about that, I didn’t feel much satisfaction.

They reacted normally after all…

Since I already made some, I might as well make portions for Yururu-shishou as well. Even if I was a cool-type protagonist, I should never forget to be filial.

During the break of morning practice, I gave the omelet to Yururu-shishou, also to Mei who happened to be watching our practice.

“T-thank you very much, Fay-kun!”

“Mei received this gratefully, Fay-sama.”

As the two ate it, they wore suspicious expressions.

“I-it’s delicious… Yes, it really is… I thought of it when I ate it last time, it really tastes delicious… Yes, truly delicious.”

Yururu-shishou wore an expression as if she didn’t feel satisfied about something. Uhm, it seemed that the dish I made doesn’t fit the taste of my great master.

“Fay-sama… it tastes delicious. Yes, but, well… It makes Mei think Mei could make something better… or something like that… yep.”

Mei the maid also didn’t have a satisfied expression. So I didn’t manage to make them satisfied… As expected, my cooking skill was still subpar.

Yururu-shishou complimented it last time, but I guess she was just being considerate toward me.

Well, I shouldn’t think too much of it. Rather than my cooking skill, I should improve my sword skill. Yururu-shishou and I resumed our training.

◆◆

There were ash-colored clouds in the sky. Even though it was daytime, the sun was blocked by many clouds, and it was so dim it gave an illusion as if it was nighttime. It was raining and the ground became muddy due to the downpour.

Someone stepped on the soft mud ground. The right leg followed by the left leg desperately ran through the forest.

It was a man wearing a robe. He desperately fled from the chasing paladins of the Britannia Kingdom who wore blue clothing.

…Sounds wouldn’t echo in this downpour…

The man’s name was Sugaru. He was a boy who was also a victim of the Eternal Foundation like Alpha sisters, and he was also a wanted criminal who committed a number of crimes. He committed robbery, theft, and murder, not even women and children were spared.

He was in possession of Origin (a unique element) known as “Kotodama” which made him a subject of the Eternal Foundation and experimented on, causing great damage to his heart and body. To relieve his anger, he repeatedly committed crime by doing things that were done to him in the past onto others.

He started with minor things. From theft, or lightly put his leg forward to make others stumble. But he couldn’t stop himself.

At the end of that, he became a wanted criminal.

“—Stop.”

He operated his art and uttered a word. However, his voice didn’t echo due to the terrible downpour. “Kotodama” cast suggestions to people who heard his voice and allowed Sugaru to control their actions temporarily.

Moreover, by concentrating more of his art, it would allow him to control objects as well. He could command a tree to extend their branches, or commanded fire to burn more fiercely.

It was a very powerful ability. However, it was useless at the moment.

There were multiple opponents so controlling one of them didn’t mean much. They were also casting offensive magic at him. Therefore, he was left with no choice but to run.

Perhaps there was fortune in an unlucky situation? The rain made visibility and footing poor, so the distance between him and his pursuers widened, this allowed Sugaru to lose them.

This was the first event for sub-protagonist Alpha, the pathway that made her fall into the darkness.

Purple Man meets Fay…

Yeah, Fay is the protagonist(not), so naturally he’s immune to that.

Well well well

I must admit i thought alpha would be the straight man of the trio due to her sisters love for fay but i didn’t expect fay to just get the entire trio itself

Gambatte Fay, fight on and be the harem protagonist you accidentally become

P.S long time no see tsuki
Hope you doing well

I doing well and i binge read all the story i miss, it so awesome and cool to see fay journey

for the second part about fay decision, well that why fay is the accidental harem protagonist because his heart is too pure and if he loosen his cool mask a bit, so many girls would nearly have a heart attack due to how pure the dude is and don’t try to deny it

His monologue despite being insane as hell, it contain his thought that is genuine and kindness
No wonder so many girls are having a crush on him
