Chapter 076 – Fufufu, Son. It’s the July Field Study④ [A]

Having received the request, Group C proceeded through the Imperial Capital’s underground passages.

The monsters that appeared from time to time were slaughtered through the teamwork of the seniors, whose skills were more refined than those of Class VII, without having Rean to fight.

Rean knew how strong Crow and Angelica were, but he didn’t think that George…… and especially Towa, could fight that well.

Watching Towa fire seven elemental bullets at monsters with her orbal gun in one hand made her seem superior even when compared to military recruits.

“Eheheh, despite how I look, I’ve been a test user of ARCUS for a year, though in a different way than Rean and the others are. Besides the fact I am a student of a military academy of the Empire that values ‘martial might’, even Instructor Mary should be able to fight properly in case of emergency.”

“Seriously?!”

Rean was genuinely surprised by this unexpected truth.

Just like Rean and other students who enrolled this year, Mary was a new instructor who began teaching at the military academy this year. She was a compassionate woman who taught students music, art, and culinary skills.

Rean had likened Instructor Mary to Rosine who couldn’t fight and become an instructor, so he was very surprised.

“I knew Instructor Makarov could fight to some extent from Schmidt’s Classroom, and I’ve heard that Instructor Thomas was also a considerable Arts user, but perhaps Instructor Heinrich is also?”

“That’s right, we’ve never seen it either, but I’m sure he has some means of self-defense.”

“It goes without saying that Instructor Sara and Instructor Neithardt could fight, but it is also said that Principal and Instructor Beatrix are quite competent in combat.”

“Rumor says that the Principal is a master who is capable of slicing through tanks.”

“Haah~……”

For Rean, who only had contact with Sara and Neithardt, with whom he often sparred, it was quite precious news.

Rean understood that Vandyck was strong, so he decided he would request a mock battle if he had the opportunity.

“Rather than that, I’m more curious about Rean-kun.”

“Is there something strange about me?”

“It’s distracting to have someone cheering with a flag every time we fight.”

“But he actually provided support through ARCUS with that, so it’s incomprehensible.”

“People say if one could master aura, one could even change it’s mode through its application, but how did you do it?”

The senior’s eyes were on the thing Osbon called Brave Order that combined the Power of Ashen and ARCUS, which they had once shown to Alisa and the others in Ordis.

It was a simple power that increased the group’s strength and defense, but it was highly effective.

“It feels wrong to do nothing and just watch the fight, after all. So I cheered for Senior, literally. I don’t have to wave the flag to use it.”

“Good, then do it normally! It makes me feel embarrassed……”

“Well, it does make things easier, though.”

“You’ll just get exhausted if you retort to everything he does. He has done a lot of things in Schmidt’s Classroom, after all.”

Crow and George, who had seen Rean’s outrageous behaviors during experiments in Schmidt’s Classroom, only looked fed up and had wry smiles.

Towa and Angelica, who had come to understand Rean Schwarzer dramatically over the past few days, seemed unsure of what to say.

“Well, well, isn’t that okay, it does save some time——Angelica-senpai!”

“I, know!”

Rean was the first to notice and charged forward with flag in hand, followed by Angelica, and an ARCUS link was formed between the two.

Rean thrust the flag at the opponent’s feet and made it tip over, floating in the air.

Angelica had sensed his movements and responded by delivering a spin kick to the opponent, knocking them unconscious in a single blow.

The one that Rean and Angelica knocked unconscious through their combination appeared to be a completely ordinary man.

From the two’s movements, Towa and George realized too late that the man had been running towards them.

Crow had already drawn his twin guns, but by the time he was about to pull the trigger, Rean and Angelica had already rushed out, and things were concluded without him able to do anything.

“W-Wait, Rean-kun, An-chan! What are you doing, knocking that man unconscious all of sudden?! Isn’t he an ordinary imperial citizen……”

“No, at first I just wanted to stop him but,”

“Look closely, Towa. Would an ordinary citizen have something dangerous like this?”

Angelica showed the orbal gun the man was holding.

It was a small gun, and although its aperture was small, it was highly portable.

“I-It’s amazing that you noticed.”

“My eyesight is good.”

“It’s because I sensed the killing intent.”

Ignoring Towa’s question, Rean untied the man’s tie and used it as a makeshift restraint, tying the wrists of the disarmed man behind his back.

He made sure to make knots complicated so that it wouldn’t be undone easily.

“You’re quite skilled at it.”

“When my martial arts master taught me how to escape from binding, he also taught me several different ways to tie things up.”

While Rean was answering Angelica’s question, his ARCUS started ringing.

After bowing to Towa and the others and picking up the call, Rean heard the familiar voice of Sara.

“Instructor Sara, what happened?”

[“Rean, your group is the underground passage at the moment, right?”]

“Yes, we are searching for the requested lost property.”

[“Good timing then. We are currently sealing off the underground passage at the request of RMP. The reason is to capture terrorists.”]

“The terrorists are in the underground passage?!”

Towa and the others turned to look at Rean’s words.

Rean turned up the volume on the ARCUS so that everyone could hear.

[“It seems that RMP were making a sweep of terrorists hiding in the Imperial Capital. They managed to lure them underground. I’ve explained the situation to others, so leave the rough stuff to professionals and your group should stop doing your request and come back up. If you come across any suspicious people along the way, explain the situation and take them to RMP. Even if there happen to be any lost civilian among them, we will release them immediately after holding them for a while.”]

“In that case, we have already caught someone that fits that description.”

[“Oh my, you’re quick on the work.”]

“Well then, we’ll send him over. Thank you for the information.”

[“……Even if you get lost on the way, make sure to make it back, okay?”]

“……Thank you very much, Instructor.”

With that, Rean ended the call.

Although Sara had told him to return, she didn’t think that Rean would do so willingly.

That was why she allowed them to make some detours.

Rea was grateful for her consideration.

“Then let’s deliver the guy to RMP——”

“There’s no need for that.”

Crow suggested that, but Rean created a clone of himself, picked up the man, and ran off to deliver him to RMP.

Ignoring Crow, who was scratching his head with a bitter look on his face, Rean turned his attention to Towa and the rest.

Despite his hatred of the terrorists, he followed Sara’s words and had no intention of quitting halfway through.

“Senpai, regarding the morning’s request……”

“I understand, so it’s okay. I feel bad for the person who dropped the book, but I’ll have to ask them to wait a bit. This is more important, after all.”

“If Towa said so, then I’ll just nod in agreement.”

“I think the issue is before that matters, An.”

“……I have no objection either.”

Everyone agreed to search for the terrorists, and Group C once again headed into the underground tunnels.

It seemed that the RMP themselves had also entered the underground tunnels, as Rean and the others could occasionally hear the sounds of large numbers of gunshots through the tunnels.

Rean wanted to go and help, but Towa advised him that there was no need to force to help those with the ability and presence, so they decided to go to an area where RMP wasn’t around.

As he continued walking, Rean sensed a familiar presence.

“……This presence. Everyone, be careful. There are probably terrorists ahead.”

“Presence, you say……”

“The truth is, I had an encounter with a group of terrorists the other day. I remembered their presence. And this…… should be the presence of the fellow named Gideon.”

“Gideon……”

Crow muttered as if to repeat him.

Rean didn’t pay any attention to that and continued.

“That person has a flute that can control monsters and cryptids. If you find the flute, you should destroy or steal it to neutralize him. The man’s direct combat ability shouldn’t be that high.”

“Then Towa and Crow who can attack from distance should…… what’s wrong, both of you?”

“No, I just thought I’d better be wary if terrorists are around.”

“……………”

“President Towa?”

When Rean called out to her, Towa, who had been looking down and thinking about something, looked up as if she had just remembered something.

“I remembered! Michael Gideon! He was an assistant professor at Imperial Academy, and I believe his work ‘Marching Towards Dystopia’, was banned by the government……”

“Haah? Is that Gideon fellow committing a terrorist attack to get revenge for his book being banned?”

Rean raised his voice upon discovering Gideon’s true identity.

[“Fufufu, son. This request…… perhaps it was actually to search for the author under the disguise of looking for the lost book?”]

So did Rufus-san have a hand in today’s request? What the heck…… Does that mean all the requests of Group C are counter-terrorism activities?

As Rean was impressed with Rufus’s abilities, which Osbon had recommended, for a moment before he sensed a hint of anger coming from Crow.

Before he could point that out, Towa spoke up.

“No, I think the reason was that the book’s content was criticism toward the Chancellor. But I don’t think that someone who was an assistant professor at the Imperial Academy would be so narrow-minded as to become a terrorist for such a reason, though……”

“A guess is just a guess. If you’re curious, we can just ask the person directly.”

“I guess, you’re right…… I’m also curious about that.”

With Angelica’s follow-up, Towa slapped herself softly on the cheek to pump herself up.

It must have hurt more than she expected as her eyes were a little teary.

The redness of her cheeks made Towa, who was already short and had a baby-face to begin with, look even more childlike.

“I want to suck on it.”

“Shut up.”

In response to Angelica, who said something dangerous and was about to take a step toward Towa, Rean interrupted her.

He didn’t forget to cover Towa’s ears.

Angelica came to her senses when George grabbed her shoulder and stopped her.

“N-No good, no good. I just can’t help but have the urge to lick those cheeks to disinfect it.”

Rean was creeped out.

Towa, who was unable to hear what Angelica was saying due to her ears being covered, had a confused look on her face, and as the pervert, under the identity of a lady, was about to awaken once more, Towa managed to be protected.

“Crow-senpai, rather than you ignoring us and moving on, it’s better if you look at us as if we are joking around.”

“You can just stay there forever.”

The group stopped Crow, who was about to move forward on his own, and Rean and the rest advanced with their weapons ready. Naturally, Rean changed his weapon from his flag to his sword.

Eventually, Group C reached the underground passage leading to the Imperial Tomb, and heard the sound of the flute Gideon had been playing.

“This is…… did he notice us?!”

“I guess there’s no point in hiding then, let’s go!”

Realizing they couldn’t ambush the terrorist and the said terrorist was even on guard, Rean took off running.

Beyond that, a skeleton appeared to be forming automatically, floating in the air, and eventually took on the shape of a gigantic dragon.

Eventually the bone dragon stabilized and let out a voiceless roar while spewing out dark miasma.

“Wha……!”

“A b-bone dragon?!”

Towa and the others, who had caught up behind him, let out cries of surprise.

Rean felt that the bone dragon before him looked familiar.

“That is the dark dragon, Zoro-Agruga. It is the demonic dragon that once transformed Heimdallr into a demonic city. Its remains are likely being controlled by the Artifact called Demonic Flute.”

Rean had heard about the flute from Barkhorn.

It was probably something that the Gralsritter could secure.

“You, Rean Schwarzer……!”
