Chapter 40 (Part 1)
After seeing everyone off and returning to the living room, Noel immediately began writing a letter to our father.
I sat on a nearby sofa, reading a reference book on magical tools and checking the magical barriers that Camilla had retrieved for me.
We had handed six star fragments over to the dark organization. As a result, the goddess Lune would be resurrected in a state of insanity.
Gathering demonic essence required magical energy, but the star fragments supplemented a person’s mana regardless of their attribute. Therefore, the dark organization would try to collect a huge amount of them, which would grant them immense power, incomparable to when they summoned the dragons. If they were to go to the royal capital in that state… the goddess would try to collect the demonic essence drifting nearby. As a result, she would suddenly come into contact with a massive amount of negative emotions, which would cause her to go insane.
Most likely, the people from the dark organization would try to control the resurrected goddess Lune using the demonic essence, but instead, they would lose their magical energy and be annihilated. Although, if they could forcibly cut off the magical connection, they might be able to avoid dying.
If possible, I would like to stop them from collecting any demonic essence, but I had no idea where they were hiding. We couldn’t even look for them since we hadn’t fully recovered yet.
If the game proceeded as it should, Luca and the others would encounter people from the dark organization. The glasses guy in the dungeon of the 10th city; the dissolute woman in the 11th city, and the middle-aged man in the 12th city. Well, they always got away when Luca and the girls tried to catch them though.
In the game, Zagan was a member of the dark organization; however, he didn’t want to give the fragments he obtained to them. He believed that since he had collected those fragments, they belonged to him. That was true, but he was killed as a result.
From the protagonist’s point of view, whether Zagan was alive or dead, he was considered part of the dark organization from the beginning. So, by that logic, Zagan’s star fragments belonged to the dark organization.
But for Luca, living in the present, what was in my possession was taken from me. And in the process, I almost died. …I just hoped Luca wouldn’t let his anger get the better of him and kill them.
Even if they were captured, it would be meaningless if they had already used the fragments’ power. In the game, the hero was able to destroy Lumiere by using his enormous mana along with the magical energy that was scattered by defeating the Evil God. So, if we could bring the goddess Lune back to her senses, we should be able to manage without the star fragments.
The more prepared we were, the better. I hoped that I could prevent the destruction of the royal castle, even if just a little. Also, I wanted to improve the magical barrier so that the citizens of the capital would not suffer any casualties.
The key change to the magical barrier was the attribute. Goddess Lune was of dark and holy attributes. Since the nature of the dark attribute differed from that of the holy attribute, the current version would not be able to prevent the goddess’ attacks. Unlike in the 9th City, we did not know where exactly the goddess was slumbering in the capital, nor did we know what the situation would be if she were revived.
It would be better to modify the barrier so that it could block everything, including debris.
It occurred to me that Noel was a holy attribute user, and she was also my sister. I wondered if Noel was also a descendant of the goddess Lune, although her magical energy level was too low for that. Was it just a coincidence that she was born with the holy attribute?
I was probably a descendent because my father fought against the goddess Lune. Whether it was Luca, who was a descendent of the god Soleil, or the descendants of the goddess Terre in the Kingdom of Terre, they were all influenced by the gods’ magical energy and became their descendants as a result.
It was impossible to know whether or not the goddess Lune, who had regained her senses, had spoken with my father or not without asking him by letter. However, even mere contact with her was enough to have an influence.
Thus, I was born with the dark attribute and became a target of persecution.
Perhaps because I was lost in thought while looking at Noel, she sensed my gaze and tilted her head.
“Nii-sama, what is the matter?”
“Nothing. …I was wondering why you have so little mana, even though you’re a holy attribute user. I thought that maybe you aren’t a descendant of the goddess Lune and just happened to be born with the holy attribute.”
“I don’t know if I’m a descendant or not, but Cindy talked about it. The goddess Lune has a dark to holy ratio of 9:1, though even at a ratio of 1 she is still a goddess and therefore cannot be compared to mortals.”
“I see. So that’s why the Evil God is not known to be of both dark and holy attributes.”
The only person I knew who had two attributes was Camilla, so I had assumed the ratio was usually 5:5, but apparently, it could be uneven. If that were the case, it was highly likely that Noel had also been influenced a bit.
“Speaking of which, it seems that the original form of the goddess Lune was a black cat. In addition, it is said that her paws are silver as if she’s wearing silver socks! She must be cute~!”
“…I guess that’s cute.”
Perhaps she was big in size. The horse goddess Terre soared in the sky, so even a cat goddess might be as big as a leopard, tiger, or even a chimaera.
“Also, the god Soleil is said to be a golden wolf. A wolf and a cat cuddling as lovers… It’s absolutely adorable!”
Would the goddess Lune be okay? If the god Soleil was to climb on top of her, there was no way she would be able to put up a fight. Wouldn’t he eat her right up in that case? No, maybe she took god Soleil up the ass. I rather hoped so.
“That’s what we talked about.”
“Well, If I actually saw a cat being mounted by a wolf, I’d have to save the cat. The god and goddess can take human form though, so it’s not an issue, right? Or are you thinking of the god Soleil as me? I don’t think the goddess would like to ride me, but she would love to have me up her ass…”
“Fu, I wonder.”
“No, I don’t mind. Being spread out… If you had cat ears or a tail, Zagan, I’d probably eat you right up because of how cute you would be.”
“Well, should we hang up for the day?”
“Ahhh, wait, don’t hang up. I’m being serious. Please don’t hang up. I still want to talk to you, Zagan.”
Luca was not joking when he said that. He was honest about his feelings and did not try to hide them. That was why I felt at ease with him.
“Did anything else happen? It doesn’t matter how trivial it is.”
“Um… Noel was very happy when we were eating. She said she was excited because it was the first time we were alone together. Plus, we talked a lot. About home and school and the like.”
“I see. Noel loves you too, after all. She must be happy to finally be able to do something as siblings. She at long last got to acknowledge that you are her brother. But, since I’ve been monopolizing you, she… I’ve done something terrible.”
Luca was slowly returning to normal. Thank God. Lately, he really hasn’t been able to relax. He got nervous if I left him for a while, and he didn’t pay much attention to his friends. I guess it was important to keep one’s distance sometimes.
“I was pleased to be able to eat meat properly for the first time in a long while.”
“Fufu, I’m glad to hear that. When we get back, we can finally have some dragon meat.”
“I’m really looking forward to it. Oh, and tell Bennett not to worry. I’m the one handling the dishes.”
“Oh, yeah? Okay, I’ll tell her.”
I heard from Noel that because she usually carried only swords, when she would do the dishes, she would put too much pressure on them and break them when they slipped from the soap. As per the game setting, she was a bit of a klutz, but that was okay because noblewomen never needed to wash dishes. Plus, I could handle that. I found it cute that she had a few flaws.
“What else? Have you bathed? Are you properly dressed and warm?”
“I’m fine. I’m already in bed. All that’s left is to sleep.”
“I see. …Haa, I miss you being in my arms, Zagan.”
“…Yeah. I, too…um…miss having you by my side, Luca.”
He called out sadly, and my heart clenched. I wanted to hug Luca. I couldn’t help but feel lonely being by myself in the big bed where we had slept together for several days.
And my insides were starting to throb. When I was awake, I was fine, but when I lay down, I strangely found myself craving Luca’s penis and wanting his big palm to cover my belly. I wondered if it was because I could smell Luca’s scent from the bed.
We both fell silent. I listened to the faint sound of his breathing through the magical tool and desperately tried to feel his presence.
It must be the same with Luca. That was one of the things that made me love him.
“…Luca, let’s turn in for the night. Sleep well and let’s talk in the morning.”
“Yes, sure. Good night, Zagan. I love you.”
The sweet words tickled my ears, and a sigh escaped my lips. I felt that if I said, “me too,” Luca would get so excited that he wouldn’t fall asleep, so I decided to say something else.
“Good night, Luca. Sweet dreams.”
I heard him chuckle and then he hung up. Damn, my face was on fire…
Ciel = Sky + Dark attribute → Night sky
Noel = Christmas season → Holy attribute → Moon
Ciel & Noel → The looming moon in the night sky → Moon Goddess Lune (Dark + Holy)
