Chapter 093 – Ocean [A]

Ludo-Rathowm continent.

The outer circumference of the continent was a precipitous cliff that nobody had ever survived falling from.

However, once every ten years, the phenomenon known as “high tide” occurred.

The place where the large river in the south of the continent flowed to was usually called the “Sina sea.”

But only during this period of time would they emerge around the continent.

Those who lived on the continent called it by this name.

The ocean.

It was a large body of water spreading all over, a vast sea. It continued over the horizon, and made people think it went on forever.

That ocean that was worthy of its name was spread out across the field of view.

Bright and hot sun shone from the sky, and the refreshing sea breeze would occasionally blow from the front. A white sandy beach spread at their feet, transmitting the heat contained within.

The people who lined up there weren’t human, but a group of demons. One of them, a blond pigtailed girl, stepped out in the front and swung herself up as to exert her power,

“—It—is—the—o—ce—an——–!!”

Carol, the apostle of Majin Leonhart, who was always cheerful and energetic, couldn’t stay calm and shouted louder than she usually would.

However, her master Leonhart who was next to her, sighed and admonished Carol.

“You’re wrong there, Carol. At a time like this it’s the cliché to shout ‘IDIOT’ instead.”

“Really?! Then — IDIOT—-desuwa—!!”

“…What’s with that weird cliché?”

Hunty, who was next to Carol, glanced sideways with half-lidded eyes.

Maou Ssulal, who saw their exchange, sat next to Leonhart with a wry smile.

“Well, I can understand the feeling of wanting to go wild, I guess…?”

“Yes. It’s our first time going to the ocean after all.”

“You’re right. I think there’ll be some undiscovered tastes in the ocean too.”

You’re acting as usual… such was everyone’s thought as they looked at Galtia. Next to Kesselring who agreed with Ssulal’s opinion was a majin with a huge body, Masuzoe and his apostles,

“Ufufu, Masuzoe-sama. We arrived at the ocean. Isn’t it amazing?”

“…”

“Fumu, the sunshine today might burn our skin… For this opportunity, this first apostle prepared Brad’s special hanny sunscreen cream, so let’s apply some.”

“In that case, let me, the first apostle, apply the Pitt’s special hanny sunscreen cream – revised for everyone.”

“Bastard…!” Such was how the two apostles began to hit each other again. Everyone swallowed their retort of how those two wouldn’t get sunburn since they were ghosts, then Leonhart coughed to gather attention,

“…Well anyway— let’s begin our first sea bathing.”

And with those words, the first ever sea bathing of the Demon Army’s people began.

Leonhart inhaled as he saw some people heading toward the beach.

They came to play at the beach using the opportunity of high tide. Such was their situation. Carol came up with the idea, but it was Leonhart who gave the approval. As for what he thought,

“…I think we play a lot these days…”

“…Isn’t it okay? That’s more peaceful.”

The one who responded was Ssulal, who was relaxing under a parasol before he knew it. Looking at her, he wasn’t convinced by that so he stated his opinion. That was,

“Are you intending to spend your time withdrawing and reading books after we came all the way here? How about enjoying the sun during our time here, at least? —Also, that swimsuit looks good on you.”

“I can’t swim after all… Hey, did you just compliment me as an afterthought?”

“Don’t say it as an afterthought.” As Leonhart looked at Ssulal who said that,

“What, do you want me to say it again then?”

“…I-it’s embarrassing, so you don’t have to say it now…”

So which one do you want? Such words almost slipped out of Leonhart’s throat. I guess she’s being shy as usual, as Leonhart thought of that,

…Anyway, her swimsuit really looks good on her…

He was filled with admiration as he observed Ssulal’s appearance. The thing she wore was a swimsuit that was recently made, and as its name suggested, it was clothing that could get wet without problem.

However, the swimsuit itself was quite revealing, so Leonhart had a strange feeling.

Her chest was hidden by a light blue top with frills, and the bottoms were pants like clothing with the same color, with a decoration-like skirt.

For the time being, since she wore clothing on top of the swimsuit, he could say it looked nice on her.

But if she only wore the swimsuit, then,

“Leonhart. Is there something I could help you with?”

“Hm, aah…”

Kesselring approached Leonhart, who was groaning in front of the luggage.

Her appearance had higher exposure compared to Ssulal. She was wearing something — known as black bikini. Carol made explanations for various things. Just like how she suggested the sea bathing project, she sure has talent on strange things, such was Leonhart’s impression.

In any case, Kesselring’s limbs were shown attractively while her important parts were covered by her swimsuit. Her deep cleavage was especially wonderful,

“…Leonhart. T-that’s…”

“!”

He noticed he was staring at her after a while. Kesselring hugged her own body with her arms in front of him and looked away in embarrassment,

“I’m quite embarrassed to be stared at so much…”

“…Sorry. It just looked that good on you.”

“Ah, no, you can look, but… well— I just find it embarrassing…”

When Leonhart obediently apologized, she said she didn’t mind.

However, a voice came from behind him.

“…What are you troubling her for?”

“! S-Ssulal…”

Feeling the weird pressure, he looked back with only his head. There was Ssulal who looked at him with a smile. Her pressure as maou was hitting him, but with sulking tone,

“…Leonhart, you idiot. Big boobs lover.”

“Fuhn,” she snorted and returned her gaze back to her book. He heard her, so Leonhart had an indescribable feeling.

It might be jealousy, but Ssulal’s judgment toward Kesselring was somewhat subtle, something like a gray zone, like she was overlooking her somehow. Certainly, Leonhart also felt complicated about it. Kesselring also felt a little confused about it. Because all people involved understood the relationships between each other, a strange atmosphere was created. It was his fault as the man.

For the time being,

“…Well then, put the iron plate and the table side by side.”

“…Umu, I understand.”

Kesselring immediately moved at his words. She probably wanted to get rid of the strange atmosphere as well. She might have just been embarrassed though.

In the meantime, he walked to the shore.

As he felt the sensation of the sand beneath his feet, he approached his apostles,

“…Haah, I wonder why? It really makes me calm looking at you two… especially Hunty.”

“It’s not like I wanted to be complimented to begin with, but your tone pissed me off…”

As Hunty frowned, Carol looked at her,

“That’s wrong, Hunty-san. It felt calming, so it meant that’s how much he got used to us! In other words, the swimsuits we wear suit us the most…!”

“Aah, that’s right. You did well to notice it- It looks good on you- Carol.”

“E-ehehe- it’s not that much.”

“He clearly said it in monotone. Don’t you think you’re being fooled there?”

As Carol was happy for the compliment, Hunty squinted her eyes. He showed a light smile to his rebellious apostle,

“No, that’s definitely not the case. I’m being honest after all. It also looks good on you.”

“…That doesn’t make me feel happy at all.”

Hunty showed a weird expression. I guess she was just being rebellious, thought Leonhart, but it was also a fresh reaction from her. Women around him were happy to hear his compliments after all. It was rare for him to see a woman who hated it.

…I meant it when I said it looked good on them though.

Carol wore a swimsuit with a blue top and a cloth called a pareo on the bottom, while Hunty wore a tank top swimsuit with hot pants. Hunty probably chose her clothing for their functionality.

“…Well, let’s leave that aside. For the time being, let’s play like it’s training — Carol.”

“Yes! It’s all prepared!”

Carol put something on top of the sands when Leonhart called her. As Hunty saw that, she regained her thoughts and returned to her usual expression,

“—So, what are we going to do with that watermelon?”

“What, you don’t know, Hunty? What we’ll be doing now—”

Leonhart said while receiving the strip of white clothes from Carol. That was,

“It’s a watermelon split.” 1

“It is!”

“…Watermelon split?”

Hunty tilted her head.

“The rules are simple. Use this wide cloth to cover your eyes so you can’t see anything. Then use your weapon during that state to hit that watermelon on top of the sands.”

“Aah, so it’s that kind of game…”

Hunty seemed to understand as she heard the explanation. Just as she thought, it was training to develop other senses without being dependent on sight.

By killing the mushi called watermelon, it would produce sweet and crispy food to eat. It was an epoch-making game.

“First of all — Carol. You do it.”

“Certainly!”

At the same time, Carol who already covered her eyes moved forward with her rapier in hand.

And as she stepped forward to some extent,

“Bear witness to the mind’s eye I learned from Leonhart-sama…!”

“…Did you teach her that?”

“I didn’t…”

Hunty sighed lightly in resignation. I guess she’ll fail, she thought.

Hunty would at least look properly for the result, but Carol eventually walked in a completely different direction and further away from the target.

“Tou—!”

And she hit the sand.

Naturally, the watermelon wasn’t there,

“…You failed, Carol. Go back here!”

“Kuh, what a blunder…!”

Carol gritted her teeth in regret. She certainly did it seriously and she also really regretted it, so it was good. Her ability wasn’t up to par though.

“Well then, the next one is Hunty.”

“Please avenge me, Hunty-san.”

“Avenge, you say… well, I should at least do what I can…”

Hunty said that as she received the cloth from Carol. Hunty covered her eyes with cloth and took her simple sword as her weapon,

“…”

…Ooh, she’s doing better than Carol.

Her direction was correct. Little by little, Hunty slowly approached the target.

However,

“I think… it should be around here!”

She swung down her sword as she spoke.

The place she swung down certainly had the watermelon before but,

“…Too bad, you failed. The watermelon is over there.”

“Eh… why… hey, aah, of course it moved away.”

Hunty was astonished to see the watermelon was at that far away location for a moment, but she soon noticed why, and it was something obvious.

After all, said watermelon was a mushi with four legs.

“It’s alive after all. Of course it’ll move away. It’s not a good idea to just remember the location of the watermelon.”

“This is unexpectedly difficult…”

“Mumu… how should I do it…”

The two apostles twisted their heads and growled. Perhaps they’re thinking about the strategy, but it is good thinking to solve the problem, thought Leonhart,

“What are you doing?”

“What, is it training of some sort?”

“Hm, that’s… a watermelon, huh. That’s sweet and tasty stuff.”

“…”

Everyone gathered.

Leonhart made a simple explanation about what they did.

“It is a watermelon split. It’s the training of defeating a watermelon with your sight covered… Since you’re all here, do any of you want to try?”

“Hey, there’s no way I could do it with a weapon. I could do it if I used detection magic to spot its location though. Or just shoot magic at it for a faster result.”

“That would be meaningless then.”

Leonhart retorted to Ssulal’s words. The next one to spoke was Galtia,

“Then I could use a wide area attack.”

“It’s not that kind of training here…”

“So it’s no good after all,” said Galtia as he backed down without feeling disappointed at all. He probably just mentioned it casually, like he usually did.

As they were talking about the strategy, Kesselring looked at Leonhart,

“To do it while your vision is covered, huh. I see, I guess it’s something easy for Leonhart…”

“…I guess so.”

Leonhart nodded without denying it in particular. In fact, Kesselring had seen him doing it before, so it was likely the reason she said so.

However, other people narrowed their eyes and looked at Leonhart as they heard that,

“…Ah- I guess Leonhart would be able to do it. He’s a pervert after all.”

“It’s Leonhart after all…”

“…”

“You guys, what do you think I am…?”

Such terrible remarks were said. Even Galtia’s apostles also participated and wrote “pervert” on the sand, so everyone thought it was obvious thing.

But well,

“…I guess I’ll show an example of how it’s done.”

With that said, he used the cloth to cover his eyes. He tied the cloth properly to hide his vision, and he pulled out Orpheil out of the empty air,

“—It’s over there.”

Without moving from the spot, he swung his sword and unleashed a slash toward the spot he felt the presence from.

Since he could no longer feel its presence, he should have succeeded at doing it, but he removed the cloth to check it just in case,

“There, it seems I’ve succeeded— hey, what’s up with you guys’ expression?”

As he confirmed the watermelon that was split in two and looked back, he saw the blank faces of the people around him, who said,

“How to say it, I didn’t feel it was weird at all, is something wrong with my senses…?”

“Since it’s Leonhart then it just can’t be helped, but usually, it’s not something you can do through normal effort. I guess we were already numbed by him.”

“…What should I do? The thing that came to my mind when I saw that is actually —‘it’s totally normal, is there something weird with that?’ … Moreover, I seem to feel the competitive spirit and I’m motivated to try it as well…”

“I think it can’t be helped with Shiso-sama since you fought against Leonhart once a month… but as expected, Leonhart is really amazing…”

“Leonhart-sama! Leonhart-sama is just too amazing to the point that the surroundings see you as abnormal, but you don’t have to mind it! Being the most abnormal means you are the most special!”

“…I’m not convinced by your reactions.”

Why must I be treated like the monster here? It’s just simple stuff. Since majins have special abilities, there’s nothing weird about doing something like this, right?

Kesselring and Carol’s follow up appeased him. The latter’s words were somewhat weird, though.

He returned Orpheil to empty space with an unsettled feeling, then he returned the cloth to Hunty,

“For the time being, do that for a while… As for me, I’ll prepare for it.”

“Prepare?”

Hunty asked back and Leonhart replied with a nod. He looked at the iron plates lined up by Kesselring,

“I’m preparing for a barbeque.”

Leonhart heard a whistling sound, which most likely came from Galtia, as he went back to prepare it.
