Chapter 098 – That wish is
Somewhere that wasn’t within the continent.
There were many beings known as gods there.
Among the several spaces within the area known as the “Divine Realm,” there was “Heaven” where many angels, LV gods, and many high class gods resided. Gods were separated into classes and, while their responsibilities differed depending on their role, “Heaven” basically worked under the command of high class gods, like first class or second class gods.
But beside that place, there existed another place.
It was a location that couldn’t be reached unless one went through the Door of God. Four golden statues that were spread across the world were necessary to open said door.
The gods who resided there were the absolute beings in the world, the creator god and the three gods which were the beginning of everything.
The three gods, excluding the creator god, were known as the “Three Supreme Gods.”
One of them was the god who made the framework for maou and demons.
It had a huge body with six legs that resembled golden crustaceans, and a gigantic body which didn’t resemble a spider or starfish.
Those who managed to meet it could have one wish granted — such was the hobby of said god.
This was the very god who was responsible for creating the ecosystem of the current world — one of the three supreme gods, Planner.
And it — due to a lack of gender, it was referred to as it — it had fulfilled a wish just now.
The one who came to meet it was the current maou. It was none other than the human girl that Planner had chosen to be the maou.
Due to her wisdom, she managed to reach it and meet it directly. Even if a maou possessed great power, that itself was still a great accomplishment.
Therefore, it granted her wish. That would make things interesting. However,
“—Uh~m…”
The content of said wish made Planner consider things.
After all, said wish would influence the balance of the world from now on.
Planner had the responsibility to keep the balance of the world and focus on it. Therefore, it would often twist wishes to its liking to keep that balance. It couldn’t be said it was part of his taste and hobby, though—
Well then, how should it grant the wish this time?
But then, Planner thought about it and, in the end — it decided to grant said wish as it was.
It was rare for Planner to not twist the wish whatsoever and grant it as it was.
As a result, it overestimated the spec of a life form known as maou and ended up creating a lifespan for them… but well, there shouldn’t be any problems despite that.
After all, said lifespan was 1,000 years, and it could just pick a random person to be the next maou when it happened. All was well as long the world’s balance was kept.
In that respect, the current maou was excellent. She managed to keep balance for both humans, the current protagonist race, and the demons, who were created to oppose the protagonist race, and kept both the war and the suffering it brought along with it prolonged, so the world didn’t seem to be boring for it.
However, as years passed, it felt the scale slowly tilting in favor of the human race. It was caused by the demon side, or to be exact, by the majin there, but the humans resisted more than it thought.
The other supreme god precisely made the human race to be a foolish protagonist race, and could be considered the worst compared to the other generations’ protagonist race. They were idiotic and barbaric. They weren’t that strong and they had short lifespans. Despite that, they acted brutish and selfish. They were existences full of defects that made them have a hard time learning from past mistakes.
However, they had high fertility, and they wouldn’t inherit everything as they breed, granting them a 1 in 100,000 error rate on purpose to create randomness, which made the human race, when compared to their predecessors the boring Round Ones and the Dragon race, spread into incredible diversity.
As a result, it created the most foolish, yet the most interesting race to date. They were interesting existences that weren’t boring to look at.
But said human race was made weak on purpose. While having them capable of resisting demons wasn’t a big deal, having them capable of threatening the existence of majin level power would break the world’s balance.
Therefore, the wish was granted as it was. It would turn both maou and the majins into unkillable existences.
With that, the world balance would be kept. It thought it did a good job by granting such a wish.
However, it also thought that perhaps it made the demon side become too strong because of that.
Things wouldn’t be fun if it was too one sided. The world’s balance had to be maintained.
“—What should I do…”
Planner was worried again. It was for the sake of keeping the balance of the world.
Perhaps it needed to prepare some sort of measure on the human side as well. As it thought of that, it observed the state of the continent as it sank into a whirlpool of thought.
“—!”
At that moment.
Every single majin felt their body throbbed.
All of them held onto their chest and frowned.
Be it Kayblis, who was biting on a piece of dried meat after training in a corner of Maou Castle.
Camilla, who was looking at the jewels in her room while talking to her apostle Shichisei.
Meglass, who went out to fight on the battlefield as ordered.
Galtia, who was enjoying a large amount of food in the dining hall as usual.
Kesselring, who was preparing herself in her room for the promise she had later on.
Masuzoe, who seemed absentminded in the courtyard of the castle as he walked along with haniko and his apostles.
And Leonhart, who was doing his work in his room.
All the majins were confused by the changes that occurred in their bodies.
They had no idea what happened to them.
However, they instinctively felt that whatever it was, it wasn’t a bad thing for them. — With exception of a certain majin.
That day, a new power was given to the majins. It was a power that would make many humans suffer. The name of said power was—
The moment Majin Leonhart felt the throb of his body, he felt as if his spine were freezing.
“Guh, what, the…?”
“A-are you okay?! Leonhart-sama!!”
Leonhart didn’t have the composure to respond to Carol, who rushed toward him with concern. He wrinkled his eyebrows and was confused by the change that occurred in him.
He held and squeezed his chest. However, the pain, or rather, the uncomfortable sensation, lasted only for a moment. His physical state should be normal.
Nevertheless,
…What’s with this physical upset…!
A tremendous headache occurred and his heart beat strongly. His fingertips trembled and sweat gushed from his body.
At the same time, a sense of uneasiness filled his heart, a terribly strong one.
It felt as if the contents of his body wanted to move regardless of his will. This urge was as if,
…What is this… it feels as if a great failure just took place…
At the same time, he felt a sense of déjà vu in the discomfort that occurred in his body.
It felt like something he was familiar with from before, such was the sensation he felt. However, as he tried to think hard to explore it in detail,
“! Guh, Aahhh…?!”
“Leonhart-sama!!”
His headache got even stronger. As Leonhart fell to his knees and held onto his head, Carol supported him in a panic.
Even as that took place, the headache continued. The chill he felt became stronger, the more he tried to remember it.
It was as if his body was screaming, rejecting the action of recalling it.
He was sure if he managed to recall it, he wouldn’t be able to endure it.
Therefore, this might be a defensive instinct.
It was a survival response — to prevent the great regret and trauma that would come once he recalled it.
As Leonhart instinctively had such a feeling in the corner of his mind, but even as the headache still continued pounding, he stood up.
And the next words he said were something that came from his instinct. He asked Carol.
“—Where is Ssulal?”
“—Eh?”
Carol made a stupid voice at the sudden question. But Leonhart didn’t mind that and repeated it with rough voice,
“Where did Ssulal go?!”
“S-Ssulal-sama, is it? Err, well, I think, she is in her room… r-rather than that, your physical condition is—”
“—! Move away!!!”
“Kyaah?!”
Leonhart became annoyed with Carol, who was still concerned about his physical condition, and he pushed her away and rushed out the room. He didn’t have the leisure of caring about such things.
He couldn’t feel relieved until he could confirm the state of Ssulal as soon as possible. As Leonhart instinctively felt that, he half-sprinted toward Ssulal’s room.
He arrived in the room before long. The eyes of the demon soldier who was guarding the room became wide as he saw Leonhart’s desperate appearance.
“L-Leonhart-sama? Ssula—”
“I don’t care, move away! It’s an emergency!!”
“Eh, ah, yes!”
The demon soldier immediately jumped back at Leonhart’s words. Leonhart visited Ssulal’s room freely all the time, and nobody would or could stop him from doing so.
Leonhart didn’t even look at the demon soldier who moved away, and he touched the door of the room. He didn’t even have the leisure to knock on the door.
“Ssulal—”
He called her name as he stepped into the room,
“—Eh?”
“!”
It was right at that moment that the magic circle drawn in the room glowed and the figure of Ssulal appeared at the center of the room.
As Leonhart saw that, he finally calmed down a little as he rushed toward her,
“Are you okay, Ssulal!”
“Eh, y-yes… I’m okay… kyaah—”
She was suddenly embraced.
She was indeed here. As Leonhart recognized that,
“…I’m glad…”
“Leonhart…”
As Ssulal saw how relieved Leonhart felt when he embraced her, her expression clouded a little, thinking she made him worry.
And after a while,
“Um… I’m sorry for going out without telling you. I just had something to do outside, so I went out.”
“Aah… all is fine, as long as you are safe…”
He really meant that.
He could feel the uneasiness that was pushing him all this time had subsided.
But as he calmed down, he began to think about where Ssulal went earlier. She went out without telling him. He felt like reminding her that she was the maou.
“…So, what were you doing outside?”
“Ah, that’s right. I have to explain that—”
As Ssulal moved away, she smiled at him. Ssulal then spread her hands as if to point at herself,
“There’s something different about me… did you notice it?”
“Ah? Why are you suddenly asking that… Did you cut your hair or something?”
“It’s not that kind of cliché… don’t you feel anything?”
“Even if you say that… hm?”
Like I know about that, thought Leonhart yet he still tried to find out, but then he felt it. As he stared at Ssulal,
“…You… did you become a little stronger…?”
“Ehehe… rather than become stronger, it’s more that I gained new power, though.”
“…That’s—”
Although Ssulal seemed happy, Leonhart felt a strange chill for some reason.
Then he felt the headache again and his pulse raced faster.
It happened again, even as Leonhart thought of that, he still waited for Ssulal’s answer. He had to hear it, yet he didn’t want to hear it. Even as he instinctively felt that,
“Err, how to say this… maou and majin have become invincible now.”
“…Invincible…”
“Yes,” nodded Ssulal and uttered the following words.
And the words that became the trigger were—
“Simply put, we can no longer suffer any damage from attacks that didn’t come from either maou or majin, or rather, there are barriers that perpetually nullify it. If I have to say— it would be an ‘Invincibility Field’.”
“Invincibility… Field—”
“That means,” continued Ssulal.
“It means we won’t die anymore, and nobody will be able to kill us. We will be able to be together forever.”
“…Ah, aah…”
“…Leonhart?”
Ssulal tilted her head as she looked at Leonhart in surprise. However, she was immediately convinced and gave a troubled smile,
“…Geez, are you so happy that you cried?”
“I…cried…?”
It was at that moment Leonhart finally realized what was flowing down his cheeks.
They were tears. They fell from his eyes, drop by drop.
He traced them with his hand, and as he looked at his fingertips to check it,
—It’s no good.
“I will also do my best from now on.”
“…”
“I’ve been thinking a lot, but we can just deal with the humans appropriately as usual, and the main point is that we can live together forever—”
“—It’s not.”
“…Eh?”
Ssulal had a confused expression.
But Leonhart continued.
“That can’t happen… Ssulal…”
“W-why? Didn’t it make us not die—”
—That’s not it.
“Ssulal… that’s not it. — death will occur…”
—Ssulal will die.
“…What do you mean…?”
“The Invincibility Field… came at price… it makes the maou… have a lifespan…”
“!”
Ignoring Ssulal’s surprise, Leonhart continued.
“That lifespan would be 1,000 years. However… in your case—”
—It’ll come much earlier—
“—Eh, ah… w-wait! Leonhart?!”
“…”
At the end of those words, Leonhart lost consciousness and collapsed on the floor.
As Leonhart heard Ssulal’s rushed voice, Leonhart recalled a little about a certain destiny.
It was about a cruel destiny and its end.
—That day, change happened in the world.
It was a decisive change that governed the battle between humanity and demons that was brought by the maou. That name was—
—“Invincibility Field.”
Author Note:
I feel like shit when I imagine what will happen after this (I reaped what I sowed.)
Tsukii Note:
Well, thus begins the true melancholy for Leonhart… It’s all Ssulal’s fault for deciding without consulting others. Granted, the “truth” she knew is too heavy to be shared and it drove Dragon King Magiihoa crazy/made him abandon the world altogether, but this major decision has to be consulted at least to your closest people beforehand.
Also, on a not so related note, this is why you shouldn’t make a surprise, there’s no guarantee the other party would be happy and they are likely pained by your effort hiding it until it occurs.
Next up, explanations of supreme gods and their illustration!
Three Supreme Gods: gods created directly by the creator god to administer the continent. They could be considered its “children” since they are created directly from the creator god’s body.
They are the top hierarchy of gods, with many gods unaware of their existences.

Too much spoiler involved for Planner Scenario, so I won’t explain it. Just follow the story.
Well then, that’s all for this time. See you next chapter!
