Chapter 24

It was silent. 

…Die? Die as in the little cube you roll, right¹? Or die as in, death? Did he say to DIE!?

“Wait!! Death is too far!!” 

I pinched Iyuri-san’s cheeks and pulled at them. I’ll probably be punished for this, but it’s a state of emergency. Iyuri-san’s face went from emotionless to eyes squinted in happiness. 

“What are you smiling about at a time like this!?” 

And then he took my hands off his face, and said something utterly unbelievable with that smiling face. 

“I’m smiling because you touched me. Besides, isn’t death the fair verdict? There’s a lot of charges: attempted murder, extortion, and disrespecting the Emperor. What would be good? Crucifixion? Hanging? Waterboarding? Drawing and quartering? Burning at the stake?² Aah, the best option is the cruelest option after all. Shall I cut off their hands and feet, little by little, and pickle them in salt? Ollie-san, which is better?” 

I doubted what my ears were hearing. 

A smiling devil? Or the king of hell? Is that you? To be able to say such horrible things! You’re not going to say that you said this before, are you!? The chill grew more intense.

It seemed like the young lady and young master had never been hit before (is that so? You’ve sure been brought up sheltered), because they stared blankly forwards while starting to tear up and cry like a child.

Maybe they were too shocked from the possibility of execution, or maybe Iyuri-san frightened them too much, but they were now obediently kneeling on the ground and apologizing.

Upon heeding Iyuri-san’s words, the burly guards saluted, and without further ado, carried the two of them away. Guards, where did you come from!?

“Iyuri-san! It’s fine putting them in jail, and it’s fine to give them nothing but ham and cheese and bread for every meal. But, no death penalty! Never! I’m sure of that! Do you understand?”

I stood on my tiptoes to grab Iyuri-san’s collar. Iyuri-san covered my hand with his own larger one and kissed me on the forehead. 

“You… after suffering such cruel treatment, you’re still showing them such compassion and forgiveness…” 

“It’s because you listed one horrifying execution method after another! If someone told me those things, I would fall into despair, apologize, and beg for my life!” 

After yelling, I staggered towards the chaise lounge to sit down. Iyuri-san, panicked, rushed to support my body. 

“You’re still recovering, but you pushed yourself too hard. Let’s quickly return to the room.” 

“It’s all your fault I collapsed. I’m worn out.” 

“I apologize.” 

“Apologize more. No, maybe don’t apologize. You’re the Emperor after all, and you make the decisions around here. But, you really scared me back there. Deliver the verdict as you said before, but seriously, no killing, okay? Promise me.” 

I stuck out my pinky finger. Iyuri-san just stared blankly at it, so I intertwined my pinky with his, saying, “Pinky swear, if you break the promise, then you know what will happen.” I mentally sent him my intent. 

“Even if it’s a lie, just tell me yes!” 

I hit that sadistic Iyuri-san right in the abdomen. 

Iyuri-san laughed helplessly, and kissed our intertwined fingers. 

Ugh, I give up. As long as it’s not the death penalty, anything is fine. At the very least, I hope they sit in that prison and eat ham and cheese and bread⁴ and properly self-reflect. But, I’m adding some chili paste in there as well. Kukuku. 

Then, at the same time as my strength started fading away, a sense of nausea came over me.
