Chapter 29 – Letting Them Eat②

I separated the wire condor egg into egg yolk and egg white to be used in various dishes.

There was plenty, so I mixed it with the sauce base and also used it in the dough.

Naturally, I also made a Japanese-style omelet out of it.

I carefully cut the golden rabbit’s body into pieces.

I seasoned the meat lightly and baked it until it became golden brown.

The sauce to go with it was fruit based. This was where that man-eating apple would be used.

The fish caught in the mountain stream were seared and served with lots of seasoning.

The size of each fish was decent, so the seasoning wouldn’t be overwhelming.

Some of the leftovers were pounded and kneaded into a kind of fish meat Salisbury steak.

The vegetables were procured from the vice principal’s vegetable garden.

Each piece was carefully roasted to bring out its inherent sweetness.

Dessert was a cake made with apple paste and fresh apple juice.

It was actually really delicious.

The only flaw was that the appearance was so bizarre that even Kuyumi said she didn’t want to see it again.

“Okay…”

I laid out the dishes on the dining room table and wiped the sweat from my forehead.

For the first time in a while, I even wore my chef uniform and did some serious cooking.

With these, those three would learn the joy of being a foodie… Well, I guess it was too much to ask this early.

I wanted those three who were saying negative things about food at their respective houses to think, even just a little bit, that eating was fun and food was meant to be enjoyed.

I think just having a single positive memory could change the way one felt about things forever.

But honestly, I wasn’t a professional cook in my previous life, so no matter how hard I tried, I wouldn’t be able to surpass the level of home cooking. So, I also wanted to teach them not to underestimate home-cooked meals.

“……I guess you won’t help this time, huh.”

“You wouldn’t allow me to help anyway♡”

When I turned around, I saw Kuyumi leaning against the wall of the dining room.

When she whistled, Erin and Sharon came from behind.

“Um… I heard about it from Kuyumi-chan earlier, teach’.”

“Yeah.”

“From yesterday until today, you’ve been going everywhere to get ingredients for cooking, right? Moreover, with Kuyumi accompanying you.”

“Yeah.”

A few seconds of silence.

Erin seemed to be searching for words, but her mouth just kept opening and closing.

Sharon put her hand on her friend’s shoulder as if to say she would do it in her place.

“You see, sensei.”

“Yeah.”

“Are you really stupid?”

“Ye-wait, what?!”

Suddenly, an insult came.

Erin nodded vigorously as if agreeing with Sharon’s words. Kuyumi was holding her stomach and laughing behind them.

Why?! I was just trying my best, though?!

“In the first place, that’s not a teacher’s job, right?”

“If you say it’s not the job description, I guess you’re right but-“

“That means sensei put a lot of effort into something that has nothing to do with your work, devoted most of your precious days off to this, and prepared these dishes for us, right?”

Seeing the gorgeous dishes lined up on the dining table, Sharon sighed.

“You are really… a serious idiot.”

“What is a serious idiot? That clearly sounds like a notch above an ordinary idiot, right?”

“Don’t get me wrong. It’s one rank lower.”

“Well, I guess that might be true!”

It seemed she was exasperated about me going out and gathering ingredients.

They spoke their discontent like “I wish I was brought along too…” or “Kuyumi, we’ll settle this later.”

As I wondered what they meant and looked at Kuyumi, She just gave me a wry smile and shrugged.

She didn’t tell me what they meant.

“Well well, just eat for now.”

As I told them to sit, the three of them sat down at the table.

Looking at the food spread out in front of me, my appetite gradually increased.

The calm part of me was like “no, this quality is too exaggerated for school’s food, you creep. It’s disgusting,” but I used the Hero’s Sword to stir me in the chest to silence it.

“Well then, itadakimasu.”

“““Itadakimasu.”””

Since it was a Japanese game, the manners were naturally based on Japanese.

There was also something similar to soy sauce on the table. It wasn’t exactly a soy sauce, though.

“You can start with whichever you like.”

As I said that, I reached out my chopsticks to quickly sear the fish before I ate it.

When I took a bite from the small plate, the fish was so delicious. As I thought, the sauce matched it well.

I was glad that I heard somewhere in my previous life that the trick was to mix in lemon juice to add a refreshing quality.

“Then I’ll have that too.”

Erin also extended her chopstick to try tataki just like me. 1

Just like Sharon, I suspect she had a discerning taste since she came from a good family but──

“Hmm~~!! This fish is the best! It’s so plump and it feels like it moves wildly on my tongue~~!!”

Right after she stuffed her face with tataki covered in homemade sauce, Erin banged the table.

Okay, I won! I couldn’t help but make a fist pump under the table.

Leaving that aside, your strength might break the table, so please stop banging on it.

“This is so delicious! It’s seasoned properly, isn’t it?!”

“Aah, it’s a first-class product purchased in the royal capital after all.”

When I explained with a slight proud look on my face, Erin gave me a thumbs up.

Apparently, since she came from a family with Japanese motifs, she seemed to have a strong reaction to fresh fish.

Sharon and Kuyumi also ate a few slices and seemed to enjoy them, but they didn’t show as strong a reaction as Erin.

I see.

It was like how the amount of favorability gained differed for each character depending on the item gifted to them.

“Hmm?! T-this meat is delicious…?!”

As I was thinking about that, Sharon’s eyes widened as she ate another dish.

Erin and Kuyumi also showed interest, dipping the meat in the sauce and stuffing it into their mouth, then they stopped moving.

“M-m-meat this tasty actually exists…?!”

“Is this usagi-san…?”

It seemed after eating Rabbit-sensei’s meat, their foodie switches were completely turned on.

The three of them put what they wanted on their respective small plates and began eating at a tremendous pace.

“…………”

It seemed my goal was achieved.

I couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.

Seeing their momentum, there might be nothing left for me to eat which made me a little, no, a bit, no, very disappointed, and yet,

Seeing the three students enjoying their meals while smiling and chatting…

Nothing could beat the value of this scene.

“Oh my, the three are totally into it, aren’t they?”

“Ah, you’re late, sensei.”

The new person who entered the dining hall was the vice principal.

Of course, her portion had already been set aside.

“Hey, Haruto-kun. Can I ask something?”

The vice principal sat next to me and gently approached me.

She gave off a good scent and the feeling of her breath on my skin made my spine go straight.

Eh, wai, wha-wha-what?! It’s too close! I really want to be spared from her this time!

“Vice principal, what is it?”

I asked the vice principal gently, trying to conceal my inner turmoil (but the three students looked at me like I was garbage, so it was obvious).

She looked into my eyes and gently opened her soft lips.

“Haruto-kun… What about the great king of grooved razorfish?”

“You’re literally addicted to that taste…?!”

It seemed she couldn’t forget the delicious flavor of that fish she once tasted.

Once I have a long vacation, I would go fishing in earnest.

Please look forward to the great king of grooved razorfish then.

 ◇

A night passed and the weekdays came again.

Erin had left the dormitory early in the morning.

Due to the request of her family, her leave from school was approved.

Erin’s destination was her family house, the SwordX family mansion.

As people more powerful than the teaching unit, Erin and Zanba were given the role of advisors.

“Hey, it’s been a while, Erin.”

When she entered the SwordX family mansion, the third son, Zanba, was waiting for Erin at the entrance.

He didn’t seem to care that it was his own house, because he was dressed in stuffy formal attire and was carrying two long swords.

“Ah, Zanba onii-sama. Sorry to keep you wai──”

“Hey hey, I told you that you don’t have to speak so formally to me.”

“No, onii-sama was also speaking formally…”

After hearing that he got into a big fight with Haruto and destroyed the school building, Zanba became a person whom Erin had a much easier time relating to.

Because of the education drilled into her at an early age, Erin ended up speaking formally when speaking to the people from the SwordX family, but it seemed he was intentionally trying to make her break this habit.

Erin realized it was out of kindness and was honestly happy with that.

“Today we’re going to have a joint training session with members of the teaching team… aren’t we? Why else would onii-sama come to my place?”

“Err, there’s a visitor for another matter.”

Zanba glanced at the hallway leading to the guest room.

“Apparently, the person seems to use miracles like mysticism.”

“H-haah…”

“It seems that person happened to hear about you by chance, and due to various connections, that person seems to be very interested in you.”

It was vague phrasing that didn’t make sense.

Zanba paused and shook his head.

“Therefore, please stay behind me.”

“Eh? Ah, yes…”

Although Erin had no idea what the instruction was intended for, she nodded anyway.

“Err, then, will I be meeting that person? The visitor, I mean…?”

“Yes. The other party wanted to meet you after all.”

At the moment Zanba said that:

The door to the guest room opened and a girl slowly stepped out into the hallway.

Erin’s world went into slow motion.

The girl’s flowing black hair was like the neverending night sky.

Her dazzling crimson eyes, like a simmering great flame, focused intensely on Erin.

Erin couldn’t move as she was fascinated by the girl.

“……?”

Erin stared wordlessly at the girl.

The girl who would later walk the royal path and save the world felt as if she was struck by lightning.

“……!”

The same also happened to the other party.

The girl, who was on her way to save the world, realized who the other party was, and the atmosphere froze.

Erin SwordX thought the girl was like a fleeting beauty.

Mariemaia thought the other girl seemed like a lively young girl.

The protagonists of the two stories encountered each other without realizing who each other were.
