Chapter 79 (Part 2)

Perhaps because he was praised by me, Klage looked down and ground his teeth in frustration.

“First, I was about to lose my comrades. Then the magic barrier I deployed on the spur of the moment was exceptional. If we didn’t deactivate it, we wouldn’t be able to destroy the royal capital, but if we did deactivate it, we’d be the ones to die. Being placed in that situation, I was worried about what to do… and not long after, you came. Even though I tried so hard to prevent you from coming here. Not only that, you even helped my comrades who had fallen. …I wonder what it is with you. Why do you get in our way but also choose to protect us? Wanting to protect everything should be nothing but spoiled nonsense, so why?!” (Klage)

His tone of voice was resentful, but that was fine. Complain all you want — that you didn’t want to accept charity from me, someone you disliked, and that you wanted to destroy the royal capital and kill all the people with other attributes.

If you put your frustrations into words, they will surely disappear. Compared to losing your precious friends, it’s surely a trivial thing.

“Just as you were supported by many friends, I was also not alone. Luca supported me and my friends helped me. That is why, right at this moment, I am here. And the other reason that pushed me to this point is you, Klage.” (Zagan)

Klage looked at me in shock. I stared back at him.

“If you guys hadn’t started a revolution and tried to change this country, I would have continued to turn my eyes away from the discrimination against dark attributes despite being dark attributed myself. After all, I could still live even if I were alone. I would have continued to not know how much anger and sorrow other dark attributed people felt as they had to kill lest they would be killed instead. I wouldn’t have felt anguished even when those babies were being killed right after they were born… But you have taught me all of that.” (Zagan)

Even regarding my future with Luca, for a moment, I thought that Luca would abandon his social status and become an adventurer. I thought that there was no other way for us to be together. I was running away from discrimination to the point that I thought that Luca abandoning his identity as royalty was natural.

“I’m sorry, Klage. Also, you have done well to come this far. You have done well to live.” (Zagan)

“I would like to give my gratitude, too. Thank you for working your hardest to live up till now. No matter how much I apologise, there is no way the faults of the royal family from a thousand years ago, the faults that caused dark attributes to be discriminated against for hundreds of years, can be easily forgiven. However, I shall give you my pledge. I promise to bring the truth to light and end the discrimination against dark attributes.” (Luca)

Klage’s face distorted as he listened to our words. Towards Klage who turned his face away right after that, I gently placed my hand on his trembling back.

“It’s exactly because you guys have suffered until now that I want you to live… Live to see the future that comes after this… The future where there won’t be any discrimination against dark attributes. I want to show it to you guys. It’s okay, discrimination against dark attributes will definitely disappear in the near future. So Klage, leave the rest to us.” (Zagan)

When I patted him on the back, Klage let out a big sigh. A very long ‘Haaaaaaaaah’. Then he looked up. His gaze was so strong and straightforward that it pierced into mine.

“…I appreciate it, for helping my comrades.” (Klage)

“Sure. However, their mana depletion has not completely subsided, so you guys need to get out of here as soon as possible.” (Zagan)

“I understand. I leave the rest to you. It seems that the odds are in your favour.” (Klage)

When I nodded, Klage smiled slightly. A smile unlike the previous times. One that didn’t contain any sarcasm. After giving him the remote control for the magic barrier, he headed toward his comrades behind him.

Everyone was done with preparations to move from here and Cindy was also supporting “glasses guy” by lending her shoulder. When our eyes met, she smiled.

“I think Luca-kun and Zagan will be fine, but do be careful.” (Cindy)

“Thank you, Cindy. You take care, too.” (Luca)

“Cindy, I’m sure Orobas would notice if you get back on the bridge, but if he doesn’t…” (Zagan)

“Of course, I will try to go to the orphanage. Ufufu, thank you for your concern~” (Cindy)

“Hmph, I’ll protect Cindy-san, so there’s no problem! You guys can buzz off! O-Ow, ow, ow!” (Eloi)

It seems she pinched “glasses guy” somewhere while still smiling. …Cindy, are you sure you’re fine with that guy? I know everyone has different tastes, but as expected, it still worries me.

Klage and the others climbed up the bridge even while “glasses guy” was groaning. Cindy waved her hand at us and walked away with “glasses guy”, who was teary-eyed from pain.

Probably because the people the Evil God had been targeting were moving away, the Evil God’s attacks that were a continual onslaught had stopped. Since I had started accumulating power, I immediately equipped my dagger and staff before taking a stance in front of Luca. Luca, too, drew his katana and immediately started to chant a spell.

“Holy Lance!” (Luca)

Luca dropped hundreds of spears of light at the Evil God. Although he used an advanced light magic, there was barely any damage inflicted on the opponent who was also the final boss in “Lumière”. Even so, we succeeded in directing its red eyes onto us. With that, we were now its target.

The Evil God opened its mouth wide and released a massive lump of mana.

Its attack hit the barrier directly and continued to collide without dissipating, causing cracks to gradually appear. As time went on, the cracks got bigger.

Crack—! The moment I heard the sound of something breaking, I put up a magic wall with all my might. A great impact hit me, but it wasn’t unbearable.

Sure enough, it’s just an evil god after all. Although stronger than a dragon, it was still an existence that could be defeated by the protagonists in the game. It was merely going berserk from being overwhelmed by negative emotions, while the goddess herself had no intention to bring harm to anyone.

As I continued to maintain the magic wall while protecting Luca who was touching my back, the attacks stopped. We were fine, on top of the damage to the surroundings being kept to a minimum. Now would come the crucial moment.

After drinking a special MP potion so I was ready for anything, I checked up on Luca behind me.

“Luca, I’m leaving this place in your care.” (Zagan)

“Understood, I’ll be waiting for you!” (Luca)

Without nodding in reply, I ran towards the Evil God. Since the Evil God was targeting Luca who first attacked it, it didn’t even bat an eye at my approach. Going forward, Luca would need to continue to defend against the Evil God’s attacks by himself until I returned. That’s why I have to find the goddess quickly.

I dashed powerfully with physical strengthening and leaped towards the chest of the Evil God who was trying to hit Luca.

“Dive.” (Zagan)

I activated the magic that allowed me to sink into the shadows and just like that, merged directly into the Evil God.

This magic can only be used in shadowy areas during the day, but it can be used anywhere at night. Basically, I changed the shadows that overlapped with myself into a darkness that had enough buoyancy to allow me to “swim” in it, however, this was limited to inanimate objects, such as shadows or in this case the mass of dark essence surrounding Goddess Lune. Even so, was the reason why it could be changed instantly because everything in this world contained mana?

Since dive consumes a lot of mana, it’s definitely an unreasonable kind of magic. Normally, it would be impossible to continue diving for a long period of time, but since I am currently drinking a special MP potion, I can dive for several hours. However, if I take too long, Luca, who is confronting the Evil God, might not be able to hold on.

That was why I wanted to find Goddess Lune as soon as possible, but the sludge that clung to my whole body made it terribly difficult to move. Although thinking about it calmly made me realise that it was just my imagination. Since I had continuously been invoking the magic, there shouldn’t be anything that could restrict my movement.

So the reason I felt something was clinging to me was probably because of the negative emotions that I heard one after another, as if trying to brainwash me.

『That guy seriously pisses me off. Can’t he just die already?』

『Should I just give up now? So that person can finally rest in peace……』

『Kill humans. Kill, kill, kill kill kill.』

『There’s no way that person will fall in love with someone as ugly as you. Now you’re crying again. You’re seriously annoying!』

『Such a hassle…… I don’t want to work……』

『I lost again today. Why can’t I win? ….Aaah, so frustrating. Frustrating, frustrating–!』

『Kill, kill, kill kill kill kill kill』

『Eeek! N-No…No! Somebody, help me!!』

『Kill, kill, kill humans, kill kill, kill kill kill kill kill kill』

『Kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill』

『Kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill』

“Guh, urk… urgh.”

With the darkness covering my vision, the myriad of voices I heard made my head hurt so I covered my ears. Was the reason I could still hear them despite that because it was a form of thought transmission? The resentment that resounded directly in my brain felt like it could destroy my spirit. If someone were to be enveloped with a large amount of these negative emotions, it was understandable for even a goddess to lose her sanity.

That’s why I wanted to save her as soon as possible. Besides, I also couldn’t come to a stop at a place like this for Luca’s sake—he was waiting for me. I needed to hurry to the goddess. Hurry, hurry, hurry…… Shit, my headache is getting worse.

『It would be so much easier if I were to just give up. I feel stupid for trying so hard.』

Shut up and give up on your own. I’ll never give up.

『Kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill』

So noisy. How long are you going to keep whining about something that happened thousands of years ago? Why can’t you realise that you are the one causing your beloved goddess to be tormented?

Even as I clicked my tongue, I made my way through the demonic essence that clung to me bit by bit. However, God Soleil’s grudge was so strong that I couldn’t detect where Goddess Lune was. Even when I wanted to focus, my concentration kept on waning because of my headache.

Damn it, where are you?! Just where could you be?

――Geez, it can’t be helped.
